Research projects

The laboratory major interest is the study of bacterial genetic diversity and population structure for molecular epidemiology purposes. For this purpose we develop typing assays or use next generation sequencing (NGS), for a number of human pathogens. Bacteria we are interested in include Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, Bacillus anthracis, Yersinia pestis, Legionella pneumophila, and others. The typing methods we favour are sequence-based, including those based upon polymorphisms associated with tandem repeat loci.

An other topic is related to CRISPR loci. We have developped databases and tools for the investigation of these curious structures involved in acquired genetic resistance against phages and mobile elements. This interest more recently lead us to also investigate phage diversity in the context of phagotherapy.

We encourage you to go to our laboratory web pages indicated below for more details.
