Presentation
Located on the Orsay Campus, the IGM is a Mixed Research Unit associated with the CNRS and the University of Paris-Sud 11. It resulted from the merger of two research Institutes in 1989: the "Laboratoire de Génétique Physiologique" and the "Institut de Microbiologie".
The IGM accomodates 24 groups in three buildings (360, 400 and 409) : 71 researchers, Professors and Assistant-Professors, 55 engineers and technicians and about 68 PhD students and post-doctoral fellows.
The scientific and academic activities of the Institute meet the needs of society through contract-based relations with public and industrial research centers.

All the groups in the Institute participate in a theme of paramount importance, "The functional and comparative analysis of genomes". This constitutes two ’grands axes’ concerning the "Stability and dynamics of genomes" on the one hand and the expression of these genomes through "Gene regulation and cellular programs" on the other. Each sub-theme involves several research groups, under the overall leadership of a Director of studies or animateur.
The second important theme at IGM brings together the majority of the research teams under the heading, "Microorganisms- models and tools for health", as we explore ways to apply the results of our research.
